Solar Electricity

How it works:

Solar electricity also known as Solar PV (photovoltaic) works by capturing the sun’s radiation which is then converted into usable electricity for use in the home.
Solar electricity panels, normally mounted on the roof of the building, are made from two or more layers of semi-conducting material. When solar radiation hits the solar panel it creates an electric field across the layers which is then channeled to power the home.  Any the surplus electricity can then be exported to the National Grid.
The stronger the solar radiation, the more electricity is produced – even on a cloudy day!

Benefits of Solar Electricity

Solar electricity systems are one of the most efficient means of producing your own electricity in the home and can make substantial savings on a household energy bill.

  • Get paid for all of the electricity you generate  and export back to the national grid
  • Generate your own clean electricity all year round
  • Reduce your energy bills year on year
  • Improve your home’s energy efficiency
  • Cut your carbon footprint

What is the Feed-in Tariff?

The Feed-in Tariff also known as the FiT is the UK Government’s financial incentive scheme which pays a subsidy for every unit of electricity generated and exported in the home using microgeneration technology, in this case solar electricity.

Our new special offer solar electricity prices (based on the new FiT rate of 21p/kWh).

* Subject to assessment and any additional extra costs required.
** As determined by SAP2009 v9.90 based on solar irradiance values at 53.4 Degrees North Sheffield (South of Sheffield the payback may be improved).
*** Export figures based on 50% of the total output being exported to the national grid. Savings are based on 50% of the total output being used in the home.
**** Earnings and savings over 25 years are based on RPI of 2.5% and electricity price rises of 5% per year.
