Sustainable Energy Specialist celebrates its 15th Birthday
Cornish sustainable energy specialist Enact Energy is celebrating after reaching its 15th birthday in what will be one of its busiest years yet.
Since being launched by Adrian Wright in 1996 with a £5,000 business loan, Enact has improved the energy efficiency of over 250,000 homes across the UK and has helped to save over 14 million tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere through its nationwide solar energy and insulation campaigns.
The multi-award-winning company has grown to a point where it now employs over 50 people and runs a call centre from its head office in Tolvaddon.
Enact originally offered homeowners the opportunity to receive grants to improve their loft and cavity wall insulation. As energy efficiency grew in popularity, the company worked with over 100 local authorities across the UK to help homeowners reduce their heating bills.
More recently, the popularity of renewable energy technologies such as solar hot water and solar electricity has seen Enact become one of the UK’s leading national solar retailers.
Since 1996, Enact has saved energy equivalent to:
- Turning off over 64 million 100 watt street lights
- Planting over 613,000 maple trees
- Over 1.7 million flights between London and New York
- Over 51 million car journeys between John O’ Groats and Land’s End
Despite the relative infancy of the solar industry, Enact’s solar electricity systems have already saved the equivalent of a daily return flight between London and Paris for the next 104 years, a figure set to rise dramatically as domestic solar systems become more widespread.
“We are absolutely delighted to be reaching our 15th anniversary,” said Mr Wright. “In that time we have grown as homeowners have become increasingly interested in not only becoming more environmentally responsible, but - as has been demonstrated with the recent 19% electricity price increases - in saving on their energy bills.”
“Our 15th year will also be one of our busiest, both in the number of energy efficiency measures we will install for our customers and in terms of company growth, with a move to new offices and further staff recruitment in the pipeline.”
